Libraries closed for Prince Kuhio Day
All public libraries will be closed on Monday, March 27 for Prince Kuhio Day.
Fourteen public libraries normally closed on Mondays will also be closed on Tuesday, March 28, including
the Hilo, Kailua-Kona and Thelma Parker Memorial libraries.

Cancer support group meets Tuesday
A cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Honalo. People newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as interested caregivers and supportive family members.
The group meets to share cancer-related issues and to lend support to one another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer risks and early detection to help make informed decisions with their doctors about breast health.

Church hosts turkey plate dinner
Kauahaao Congregational Church in Waiohinu will host a turkey dinner fundraiser from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.
Plates can be take out or eaten at the church hall. There will be live entertainment.
Plates include kalua turkey, rice or mashed potatoes, butter corn and cake for $7. Four plates are availbale for $25. Church members are pre-selling tickets. To purchase a ticket call 929-9997. Plates can also be purchased at the fundraiser.
PISCES STARS Program Receives $5,000
The Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems’ (PISCES) 2017 STARS Program, a summer workshop for high school women exploring space exploration, astronomy and engineering, will receive a $5,000 sponsorship from the High Technology Development Corp.
STARS (STEM Aerospace Research Scholars) is a week-long, summer educational experience designed to encourage participants to pursue science, technology, engineering and math. Participants engage in hands-on activities and presentations conducted by local experts, spanning the dawn of celestial navigation techniques by Polynesian voyagers to the future of human space colonization. The workshop also includes presentations and tours at Hawaii’s world-class astronomy facilities, and a mock lunar mission with PISCES’ planetary rover.
Applications for the summer 2017 STARS Program, scheduled in late June, will open in May.
